X5-494 was treated like any other X series soldier at Manticore, until the escape of '09. After that date him, and the eleven other twins of the X5's who escaped that night, were kept under constant survaillance and were put through various psychological tests that the other X5's were not privvy to. They were also brainwashed heavily, as were the X5's who attempted to escape but were caught alive.

"Alec" became even more interesting to Manticore scientists when his "twin", X5-493 (Ben) began killing people. Manticore wanted to determine whether Alec had the same capabilities within him, but after months of study, the conclusion was that there were other factors involved in Ben's status that were not present with Alec and he was returned to active duty.

One of his missions was to assassinate a man by the name of Berrisford (see classified file). He was sent in, undercover, as a piano teacher to Berrisford's daughter and Alec's attachment to this woman made him unable to complete his mission. Manticore operatives made sure the bomb he planted went off without a hitch and it left the woman dead, but Berrisford still alive.

After several more months in psy-ops, Alec was released just in time for the capture of X5-452 and he was paired with her for the new Manticore breeding program (see classified file). Wanting not only to satisfy the previous arrangements, but also picked especially for his charge, Alec was given a new mission - to befriend Max based on his resemblance to Ben, and to help Max escape to carry a DNA specific virus she'd been given to Eyes Only.

After successfully completing his mission, Alec was released to make sure the job had been done, but found himself on the outside when Manticore was cauterized. Showing the rebellious streak Manticore had seen in Ben before him, Alec remained on the outside, even helping Max disable the beacon that was being used to tell Manticore survivors to regroup. Since then, Alec has been a thorn in Max's side, helping and hindering the X5 with his antics.

It is believed he began working at Jam Pony soley for the sector pass it provided him and it was later learned that he helped several other Manticore survivor's secure jobs there as well. Alec is currently living within the walls of Terminal City, bound by Manticore loyalty to the experiments it released.
